Appendix 2: Translator's notes
Throughout his lifetime Liam Ó Cuirc has kept a file of press cuttings and other documents about Esperanto in Ireland, from which he compiled the above history.
Words in square brackets have been added by the translator.
The information that Joseph Plunkett spoke some Arabic is taken from Grace Gifford Plunkett and Irish Freedom - tragic bride of 1916 by Marie O'Neill. Irish Academic Press, Dublin 2000.
Additional information about Esperanto in Irish history, showing that James Connolly spoke Esperanto and that some other people involved in the 1916 Easter Rising spoke it or took an interest in it, is to be found in my article Connolly and Esperanto which is elsewhere on this website. That article was written after the publication, in booklet form, of the above history by Liam Ó Cuirc.
This translation was finished in June 2002.
